It is my honour and pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Embassy of Hungary in Bucharest.

Hungary attaches fundamental importance to have good relations with neighbouring countries, therefore we strive to implement as many projects with Romania as possible that advance and enrich our bilateral cooperation. The Hungarian Government is ready to strengthen the bilateral cooperation with Romania and interested in continuing a practical and project-oriented dialogue, as well as our cooperation in the fields of agriculture and environmental protection, ensuring a predictable future for our national communities living across the border. The fact that both Hungary and Romania are members of NATO and the European Union also provides a favourable framework and background for the development of our bilateral relations.

Romania has been one of our most important trade partners for years, thanks to the economic opportunities and advantages provided by its geographical proximity; the most explicit proof of which is that our eastern neighbour has long been in the 2nd-3rd place among the foreign markets for Hungarian products.

In our bilateral relations we attach outstanding importance to the fact that the Hungarian-Romanian economic and trade cooperation is thriving and pleased to note the development of energy and transport infrastructure. The dynamics of our bilateral trade have been on a predictable upward trajectory for decades. Romania was Hungary's 8th trading partner in 2024.

In the spirit of the Constitution of Hungary, the Hungarian Government bears responsibility for Hungarian communities across the border, which also imposes numerous tasks on the Hungarian Embassy in Bucharest. Since 2013, many of our compatriots have taken advantage of the opportunity to obtain Hungarian citizenship, and I am particularly pleased that the Hungarian minority in Romania have been interested in this opportunity with unwavering enthusiasm ever since.

I sincerely hope that through our website, in addition to helping our citizens and those interested in Hungary to find out more, we can also contribute to the further development of the relations between our countries.
