On the national holiday of Hungary on15 March, the Embassy of Hungary in Bucharest commemorated the events and heroes of the 1848-49 revolution and fight of idependence together with the local Hungarian community.
We paid tribute to the memory of the freedom fighters by laying wreaths at the bust of Sándor Petőfi in Herăstrău Park and at the tomb of Sándor Veress, a military officer in 1848-49 and the construction and design engineer of Romania's first railway line, in the Reformed Cemetery.
As part of the festive commemoration organized by the Petőfi Cultural Society, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Ferenc Bogár transmitted the message of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to the Hungarian community in Bucharest, and representatives of the embassy laid wreaths at the Petőfi statue in the institution's courtyard.
