On September 8, 2026, H.E. Ambassador Katalin Kissné Hlatki opened the exhibition, which was organised on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Baia Mare Art Colony in 1896, featuring works by contemporary artists associated with the Art Colony. The current exhibition is an organic continuation of the “Baia Mare Founders” exhibition, which opened in February at the Liszt Institute in Bucharest as part of the commemorative year.
In her opening speech, the Ambassador said that the history of Baia Mare reminds us that art, by its very nature, can cross national borders, and that the true impact of an art school cannot be measured by a single generation, but by a long chain of students and masters. Baia Mare has a unique and special place in the history of Hungarian and Romanian culture. Today, in light of the 130th anniversary, it is especially important to emphasize that the art history of Baia Mare cannot be artificially separated according to national categories.
In his closing remarks, the ambassador wished that, while walking among the images of the exhibition, everyone would discover the 130-year-long dialogue that connects the past with the present, and connects our cultures.
