On October 6, 2026, the day of the martyrdom of the Martyrs of Arad on behalf of the Government of Hungary, H.E. Ambassador Katalin Kissné Hlatki and László Kürtös, Parliamentary State Secretary and Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Defence of Hungary paid respects and commemorated the heroes who died as martyrs in Arad. They laid wreaths together at the Statue of Liberty and at the Execution Site.
October 6 serves as a reminder that the freedom we have secured is not a matter of chance but the result of the conscious sacrifices made by our heroes; thus, the legacy of the 13 Martyrs of Arad (executed after the 1848/49 revolution and freedom fight) urges us to cherish that freedom and preserve the memory of the sacrifices made by those who came before us.
