On the invitation by the Hungarian Defense Attaché, NATO Defense Attachés accredited to Bucharest attended a working lunch at the residency of the Hungarian Ambassador on 25 January 2017. In the course of the event a consultation in “NATO only” format took place during which participants discussed security policy as well as military cooperation issues relevant in the South Eastern region of the Alliance. As the Hungarian Ambassador H.E. Botond Zákonyi expressed in his welcome address, Hungary’s security policy was based on NATO, therefore we attached great importance to support cooperation and coordination of our NATO allied partners in Bucharest. In his speech the Ambassador gave some concrete example of how Hungary contributed to NATO and Romanian security efforts in the region and wished a successful meeting for the benefit of the Alliance. At the end of his address the Ambassador sadly informed the Defense Attaches that a book of condolences for the victims of the tragic Hungarian school-bus accident, which happened on 21 January 2017 and left 16 young student and parents dead in Italy was opened and invited them to write a line or two should they had felt appropriate.
