At their meeting in Gyula on 28 April 2021, the two Foreign Ministers signed an Agreement amending the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Hungary and the Government of Romania on the Implementation of the Convention on Border Control of Road and Rail Traffic, signed on 27 April 2004, and the Agreement between the Government of Hungary and Documents amending the Agreement between the Government of Romania on road connections across the Hungarian-Romanian border. Following the signing of the two amendments, border crossings between Elek and Ottlaka (Grăniceri) and Dombegyháza and Kisvarjas (Variaşu Mic) may open on the common border section.

The two co-chairs of the Joint Intergovernmental Committee for Strategic Cooperation and Partnership between Hungary and Romania the Hungarian-Romanian National Minority Cooperation Committee, Mrs Iulia Matei State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, and Mr Ferenc Kalmár, Ministerial Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, signed the Protocol on the closure of the Eight Session of the Committee. The Ministers emphasized in their statements that the task of the next session will be to examine in a flexible and problem-oriented way issues that have been open for a long time, as well as current issues, and to formulate recommendations that are more useful and shorter than before.
